Chapter 466: Meeting Xiong Er Again
Li Wei followed Langri of the Corps to the City of Ice and Snow, Fred.
He stood outside the city and looked up.
Before him lay a vast, ice-blue wall, forged entirely from frigid ice.
Blue and white snowflake banners fluttered from the wall—the banners of the Ice Queen.
Looking up, Li Wei could see the occasional figures of Ice and Snow Elves on the ramparts.
They were the true masters of this Ice and Snow City, as well as its guardians.
Langri of the Corps led Li Wei toward the city gate.
There were no guards at the gate. The Ice and Snow City hadn’t been attacked by outsiders for several hundred years.
The gates were only closed when the occasional Magic Beast drew near.
There was no need to worry about a Magic Beast horde in the Extreme North Icefield, as it was impossible for so many of them to gather here.
If Magic Beasts gathered in one place, food would become a massive problem.
Li Wei walked into the Ice and Snow City. A wide, empty street stretched before him, lined on both sides with houses made of ice.
Humans, Beastmen, Dwarves, and goblins alike were all dressed in thick beast hides or padded coats.
Dressed in his thin clothes, Li Wei stood out and drew a great deal of attention.
Li Wei looked at Langri of the Corps and asked, "Is there a Magic Association stationed in the Ice and Snow City?"
Langri of the Corps shook his head. "I don’t think we have anything like that. If you mean Mages, well, there are a few. But you rarely see them around. Who knows where they stay or what they do?"
Li Wei nodded, indicating that he understood.
Mages have little interaction with other Professionals to begin with.
A situation like this was perfectly normal.
For scholarly Mages, it was normal to not step out of their homes all year long.
As Langri of the Corps returned to the city, many people greeted him along the way.
Soon, someone called out his name, seemingly about an urgent matter.
Langri of the Corps had originally planned to show Li Wei around the Ice and Snow City.
But since something had come up, he could only scratch his head apologetically and say, "Um, something just came up, so why don’t you look around on your own for now? If you need to find me, you can come to the residential area on the west side of the city."
Li Wei nodded. "Okay, thanks."
"Don’t mention it. See you around."
Langri of the Corps waved to Li Wei, then turned and walked into the distance with two others.
Li Wei stood rooted to the spot, gazing at the palace in the distance.
The Ice and Snow City was built upon an ice mountain, and at its highest point stood a huge, magnificent, ice-blue palace.
That was where the Ice Queen resided.
It was a considerable distance from the Lower City District, where races like humans, Beastmen, and goblins lived.
One was at the mountain’s peak, the other at its foot.
Li Wei had come to the Ice and Snow City to ask about the Time Dragon’s treasure.
Even if he couldn’t find out the exact location of the Time Dragon’s treasure, he at least needed to learn which parts of the Extreme North Icefield were dangerous.
He had to avoid blindly plunging headfirst into a dangerous area.
If one wanted to learn about a place, the local library was the best bet.
Li Wei walked deeper into the city. ’I wonder if Fred City has a library?’
He asked a passerby for the library’s location.
"Hello, could you please tell me where the library in Fred City is?"
"A library? What’s that? I have no idea. You should probably ask someone else."
"My apologies for bothering you."
Disappointed, Li Wei turned to leave.
Just as he turned, he heard the sound of hurried footsteps behind him.
He whipped his head around to see a short figure speeding past his feet, disappearing in the blink of an eye.
"Stop! Stop, you damn thief!"
A burly figure charged out from around the street corner.
He watched helplessly as the short thief shot past Li Wei and vanished around another corner.
"Damn it!"
When Li Wei saw the burly man who had appeared before him, he froze for a moment as a memory surfaced from deep within his mind.
The man before him looked somewhat familiar.
"Xiong Er?"
Li Wei called out in surprise.
Hearing his voice, the burly man turned to look at Li Wei in confusion.
Upon seeing Li Wei’s face, his eyes widened in disbelief.
"You’re... Li-something, right?"
Xiong Er couldn’t quite recall the name at that moment.
But he clearly remembered Li Wei. Li Wei had taken first place in the Northern Territory’s Young Mage exchange competition held in Flying Flower City.
The memory was deeply ingrained in Xiong Er’s mind.
Li Wei chuckled and said, "Li Wei."
He remembered Xiong Er’s name purely because the man looked a bit like a certain bear from a cartoon in his previous life.
Xiong Er clapped his hands and exclaimed, "I remember now!"
"Li Wei, what are you doing here?"
he asked, puzzled.
Li Wei replied, "I’m here looking for something."
Xiong Er’s eyes widened as he looked at him. "Did that damn goblin thief steal your things too?"
"Er... no, not quite. I’m looking for a treasure that might be hidden in the Extreme North Icefield," Li Wei said.
Xiong Er was surprised. "You’re here for that legend, too?"
Li Wei asked, puzzled, "Legend?"
Xiong Er nodded. "Yeah, there’s an ancient legend that’s been passed down in the Extreme North Icefield... Ah! I almost forgot, I’m here to catch a thief. We can talk later. I have to get back what the goblin thief stole, or the Witch will be angry."
Hearing this, an idea struck Li Wei. He said, "I’ll help you find the thief. After we find him, you tell me everything about that legend."
Xiong Er looked at Li Wei suspiciously and asked, "You have a way to find the thief?"
Li Wei just chuckled, not answering.
He extended his Spiritual Power perception, which had a range of six hundred meters.
Compared to before, as Li Wei’s strength had increased, the range of his Spiritual Power perception had also improved.
Not the slightest disturbance within a six-hundred-meter radius could escape his senses.
A six-hundred-meter range was enough to cover a significant part of the Ice and Snow City.
Soon, Li Wei located the goblin thief Xiong Er had been chasing.
He was in a small hut on the next street over.
The goblin thief thought he had shaken Xiong Er and that everything would be fine once he was hidden.
But he hadn’t counted on running into Li Wei, who was basically using a cheat.
Li Wei glanced at Xiong Er, then turned and said, "Follow me."
Dubiously, Xiong Er followed Li Wei to an inconspicuous ice house.
Li Wei said, "The one you’re looking for is inside."
Upon hearing this, Xiong Er rushed forward without a second thought and pounded on the door.
"Open up, open up!"
Li Wei was a bit dumbfounded by his reckless actions.
’Is this how you’re supposed to catch someone?’
He shook his head. ’Oh well. With me here, the goblin thief won’t be able to escape anyway.’
Xiong Er forced the door of the ice house open and charged inside, but he didn’t find the goblin thief.
The goblin thief had already used his small stature to his advantage, escaping through a small hole in the floor.
When Xiong Er discovered the hole, he stomped his foot in frustration.
"Damn it, I was too late! He got away! If I’d known, I would’ve just busted right in."
Li Wei gave him a silent look, then glanced out the window.
A giant Mage’s Hand flew toward them, holding the goblin thief in its grasp.
